Meet your mentor: Saumya Ramanathan Ph.D.
I grew up in India. I obtained my undergraduate and masters' degree from the University of Madras at Chennai. I started my graduate career at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Hurricane Katrina interrupted my studies, so I moved to Tucson, AZ and obtained my Ph.D. from Molecular and Cellular Biology Program at University of Arizona in Dr. William Montfort's lab (Go WILDCATS!). For my post-doctoral studies I moved to UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. My hobbies are reading, spending time with my pup Roux (also an honorary member of the lab) and traveling. I have started running and love the mental and physical challenges associated with it. I love the teaching and mentoring aspect of my job the most and on days when things get crazy, spending time in the classroom and my lab helps ground and center me. My current research program at Fisk University is funded by the National Science Foundation. I am also a mentor in the Fisk-Vanderbilt Bridge to Ph.D. program.
Students interested in research experiences should contact us! We are always looking for eager, enthusiastic and fun people to join our group.
